Happy Birthday Dracula

Happy book birthday this month to Count Dracula, he's 129 years young (26/05/1897).

Bram Stoker's Gothic horror, is a bloodthirsty tale but also quite a sad one. I never really saw Dracula as evil in the book. The Hammer Horror movie versions however, oh yes. The late great Christopher Lee had me hiding behind many a cushion with his blood red eyes and hypnotic stare. My own interpretation of Vlad Dracul in my novel The Rising: Awakening is quite a departure from Mr Stoker's immortal, blood lusting prince. But with more than 300 film appearances, and numinous book pages it's quite clear that Dracula's popularity is unlikely to wane any time soon. I'd say he is well entrenched in our collective minds.

Why not let me know your favourite Dracula film/s, actor/s or book/s. I'll start…

Films: Shadow of the Vampire, Dracula 2000 and also Coppola’s Dracula.

Actor: Gary Oldman in and as Dracula

Book: Dracula by Bram Stoker.
