Sad, sad, sad. I wanted to love this film.
I wanted the gothic fairytale horror that it promised. Instead I was bored. The tale bore too many scene streals, image ideas and even costumes - I get the symbolism and the homage to Nosferatu (all of them) or Coppola's Dracula but I expected something more ... well ... Luc Besson. I just couldn't sink my teeth into this film.
The acting was meh and the whole tone just drained me of any desire I had to watch it. This is a rare thing for me. I adore so many vampire films and books, and normally if I don't like something it's just one thing and it's squished by the overall film or story, but not so this time. I can not believe how bored I was watching this. I certianly will not be watching it again, nor will it be added to my stack of vampire films. Besson missed the opportunity to show a love that was twisted and ruined by the monster Vlad became.
Such a sad, wasteful, retelling.
